I have tended to underrate the Madikwe Game Reserve over the years. Somehow or other it conjured up the old prejudice of reinstated farmlands and fields of sickle bush with introduced species representing a glorified zoo.

Trip Report - Zimbabwe - In search of the AFRICAN PITTA

Unfortunately we didn't see the African Pitta, but what a trip. As experienced bird watchers, we were more interested in concentrating on the real specials rather than chasing numbers but still saw a very creditable 265, with many new lifers. Despite being slightly disappointed at not seeing the African Pitta, I was probably more excited at having seen the incredible BLUE QUAIL.

The Incredible new Canon Powershot SX60 HS

What a camera! How Canon manage to pack so much punch into such a small frame I will never know. What were my immediate impressions? The image stabilization system is phenomenal. Challenging bird opportunities were relatively easily handled.


I made a lot of mistakes in the experimentation process but the results were still incredibly exciting. Birds that were barely visible with the naked eye were hauled in for some acceptable results.
