No risk to Southern Africa - the REAL facts

EBOLA CASES MAP - No fear for Southern Africa

As the map below clearly demonstrates - as at 8th of January 2015, there is nothing to fear in terms of a threat of Ebola to travellers wishing to safari in Southern Africa. There have, as of that date, been no reported cases.

By contrast, there have been cases reported in the USA, the UK and Spain, making those statistically riskier places to visit.

To many overseas travellers Africa is just one country – but in fact there are 47 independent States.

Ebola has been concentrated in 3 North West African states and in a few cases with a further 3 neighbouring states.

Key points to note are:
  • The distance from New York to London is approximately 5600kms the same distance as Sierra Leone (the centre of the plague) is from Johannesburg and slightly more than the distance from Sierra Leone to Kenya.
  • All direct international flights between Southern African countries and the danger countries have long since been cancelled.
  • All leading travel countries in Africa have strictly enforced Ebola detection equipment at their ports of entry and the vetting processes are according to international guidelines.

N.B. There is NO need to fear the threat of Ebola when preparing for your African safari.
